The Guilford Human Resources Department is responsible for personnel activities of (non-education) individuals working for the Town of Guilford.
Both Full-Time and Part-Time Permanent Positions (with the exception of Board of Education and Police Department) are posted by the Director of Human Resources. All such positions are initially posted internally. If a candidate is not found from within the organization, the Human Resources Department in conjunction with the appropriate Department Head will review any applications for employment which are on file for candidates who meet the job qualifications. The decision to advertise any employment opportunities on this website or through other websites or news media will be determined on a case by case basis.
A position must be a regularly scheduled permanent position of a minimum of 20 hours per week to receive any paid time off.
A position must be regularly scheduled permanent position of a minimum of 30 hours or more to be considered full-time and receive full benefits including medical insurance.
Most full-time positions are scheduled for either 35 or 40 hours per week.
Executive (non-education) Full-Time positions consist of:
- First Selectman
- Finance Director
- Director of Human Resources
- In-House Counsel
- Chief of Police
- Deputy Chief of Police
- Fire Chief/Fire Marshal
- Assistant Fire Chief
In addition, six other employees are considered to be Confidential Non-Supervisors.
All other (non-education) Full-Time personnel are represented by the following collective bargaining groups:
- Guilford Supervisors Association (GSA)
- Guilford Employee Association (GEA)
- Council 15, AFSCME, AFL-CIO (Police Officers)
- International Association of Fire Fighters, IAFF Local 4177 (Firefighters)
- National Association of Government Employees (NAGE) Local R1-137 (Dispatchers)
- Teamsters, Chauffeurs, Warehousemen, and Helpers Local No. 443 (Public Works)
The Director of Human Resources is responsible for administering all (non-education) personnel records, employee benefits, and pension information.
The Director of Human Resources reports directly to the First Selectman and is a member of the Employee Safety Committee and the Wellness Committee. The Director of Human Resources makes reports regularly to the Board of Selectmen and the Pension Committee.
